Outlook Express Email Setup

The following tutorial is for setting up an email account. Southwest Link ( and Fraser Hill ( customers have slightly different settings from, but we will note these differences as we go through the tutorial.

1: Click on "START", go to "Programs", and open "Outlook Express". In Outlook Express you should have the following menu's available near the top of the window, "File", "Edit", "View", "Tools", "Message", and "Help". Click on "Tools" and select "Accounts" from the drop down menu.

2: From the Accounts screen you will want to click on the "Mail" tab and then off to the right click on "Add" and select "Mail".

3: Type in the name you wish to have displayed in the "From:" field for people that receive your emails. This can be your full name, first name, last name, nickname, etc. After typing in your name click "Next >".

4: Type in your full Email address and click "Next >"

5: In the following screen it should already have "POP3" selected from the drop down. Below that it will ask for both the "Incoming" and "Outgoing" mail server. Based on your email address type in one of the options below:

Click "Next >"

6: Enter your e-mail username, which is the portion of your email address before the @ symbol (e.g., "youremail" would be the username for the address ""), for the Incoming Username. This will be the same procedure for all three,, and email accounts. If you want Outlook Express to store / remember your password then check the box for "Remember password". If you uncheck this option then you will be prompted to type in your password every time you check for new email messages.

Click "Next >" and "Finish".

7: Back in the "Internet Accounts" screen you should have a new account listed. Click on the new account to "Highlight" it and, over to the right, click on the "Properties" button.

8: In the Properties window click on the "Servers" tab and put a Check in the box for "My server requires authentication".

9: At this point and customers can click on "OK" and "Close". customers will need to click on the "Advanced" tab. In this screen under "Server Port Numbers" customers will need to change the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" port from 25 to 26. Having made that one change click on "OK" and "Close".

Everything at this point should be configured for you to send and receive email in Outlook Express.
